NEW HIKING ROUTE TO THE TAJOGAITE VOLCANO CRATER

Volcanic action is the main cause of the island of La Palma's formation, which, together with El Hierro, is the youngest of the Canary Islands archipelago. We will learn about the island's last volcanic episodes. The island has experienced 8 eruptions over the previous 500 years, the last one occurring on September 19, 2021, shaping the youngest land in Spain, Europe, and Africa. By taxi, we will drive to the protected area of the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park to reach Llano del Jable, in the municipality of El Paso, at an altitude of 1200 m above sea level. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes. We will follow part of the first path to approach the cone of the Tajogaite volcano. We will take a detour that will lead us along a local path, with a small upward slope, to an old area of fig, mulberry, and chestnut tree plantations. You will be surprised to see them thriving despite what has happened a short distance away. The pine trees, which on the first stretch of the route are completely regenerated, offer us a desolate image at this point of the route: a line of completely dry, orange-coloured trees opens up in front of our eyes. We are now very close to the crater, descending a steeply sloping path full of pyroclasts we will reach the edge of the volcano's craters. The bright colours, the fumaroles, and the image of destruction all around us will leave us speechless. We will descend to the area of San Nicolás in Las Manchas, the final point of our tour, along a winding path between green pines that sometimes will give us a view of the cone covered by pyroclasts on our right. Our guide, who has experienced the entire eruption firsthand, will tell us incredible details. Book this unprecedented tour with us. You will learn a lot about the most recent volcano, living a unique and exciting experience.
